The impressionist and his artist wife, Tessa Campbell Fraser, on ADHD, crashing a horse lorry and jokes with the King.

I first saw Tessa at an exhibition for my friend Charlie’s wildlife charity, Tusk. She had very pale blue striking eyes. A couple of weeks later he asked her to meet me at the station in Edinburgh for another event. She looked lovely, sitting with her beloved spaniel, Mr Mole, in a pleasantly messy car — she’d been transporting guinea fowl for a sculpture she was doing.  Read full article here>

The sculptor Tessa Campbell Fraser’s exhibition Whales- a Deeper Dialogue has drawn enthusiastic visitors to the Tithe Barn at Messums West, Wiltshire, England since its installation in October.

The work, dominated by three half life-size sperm whales, suspended as if sleeping from the ancient oak beams of the barn, is at once a poignant reflection on the fragility of these noble and intelligent creatures in the face of global challenges and an exploration of the fascinating possibility of inter-species communication.  Read full article here>

A new exhibition in Winchester Cathedral into the depths of the ocean is putting the spotlight on one of Earth’s most intelligent animals.

"Whales - A Deeper Dialogue" features three massive hanging fabric models of whales, the largest being 18 feet long. Exhibition creator and sculptor Tessa Campbell Fraser said: “I tried as much as I could to keep a tiny carbon footprint and try to use recycled things, predominantly they are made of recycled ghost material, which when we went out with Ghost Fishing UK in Plymouth, they do an incredible job in the UK waters, dredging up any of the stuff that’s been snagged by fisherman or has been dumped. All the ghost net that is in my whales is from around Britain.”  Read full article here>

COUNTRYFILE – SANDRINGHAM

Grapevine member, Tessa, is the wife of the great Impressionist, Rory Bremner. We discuss her sculpting and art career including the sculpture she did for The Queen, of Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate in 2016.

Tessa tells us how very nervewracking it was to 'get it right' and the hiccup she had early on in the commission of Estimate! We also hear how Rory's impressions of animals helped her with one of her commissions she had of hippos in Africa.

Tessa Campbell Fraser has established herself as one of the country’s leading equestrian and landscape artists.

Her interest in animals and anatomy led her to focus on sculpting, and in 2001 she was elected an Associate Member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Tessa’s paintings and sculptures have been seen worldwide and are held in private collections including those of Her Majesty the Queen.

Tessa Campbell Fraser is accomplished in sculpture, oil painting and watercolour and has completed many commissions in all mediums.

Her work can be seen at The Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London until October 10.

Set in the tranquil surroundings of the Museum’s west lawn, created in collaboration with the Royal British Society of Sculptors, the exhibition includes large-scale bronzes of life-size hippos in water, a large red deer stag and family of three elephants in water, all brought together for the first time.

Occasionally, this job throws up a genuine treat. One is to leave the centre of London by train on a typically frenetic, Friday, and little more than  30 minutes later be in a tranquil setting, surrounded by objects of rare calm and beauty.

I’m at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, the residence of the Marquess of Salisbury. Near the main house are sculptures spread out across the lawns. This is the just-opened Great British Sculpture Show 2014 (it lasts until 30 September). Most are large bronzes. Read full article here>
